ABOUT THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE HASHTAGGED

Lyricist Flare Tha Rebel and beat producer Bob Pulliam team up on their politically charged EP, The Revolution Will Not Be Hashtagged. As evident by the title, inspiration is drawn from Gil Scott-Heron’s 1971 single “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”. The four-track EP begins with a jazzy modern-day adaptation of the original song, maintaining Gil Scott-Heron’s call to action with updated pop culture references. In doing so, the new release leans into the continued battle for racial justice, amplified by the current times

With potent lyricism, the following tracks also address a slew of social justice issues. Flare Tha Rebel tackles police brutality over the upbeat “P.O.P. Off”, intertwines quotes from civil rights activists into pro-Black verses on the heavy hitting “Different Ships”, and tackles the United States’ tragic apathy towards gun violence during the emotive “Child’s Play”.

Additionally, as a part of Flare Tha Rebel’s Art to Empower Initiative, merchandise for The Revolution Will Not Be Hashtagged, designed by muralist Sike Style, will raise funds and awareness for BLOC (Brothers Liberating Our Communities) - a nonprofit that works to recruit, retain, and develop more Black male teachers.
